71What to Wear on Date Night Summer Time Edition
I live in the central valley of California which means between June and September it is frequently at least ninety degrees. If you are anything like me it is hard enough to figure out what to wear for that Friday night date without the complications of scorching heat.
The sexy seven jeans and lacey tank top combo works for spring and fall but somehow I can’t even think about sheathing my legs in stretch denim when it’s over ninety. Besides the comfort level there is a bit of a desire to wear something a bit more exotic—well exotic like Hawaii not like leather miniskirts.
Here a few of my favorite items to have or hand to mix and match for a great summer date night wardrobe:
1. Sexy dress shorts- Sounds like an oxymoron but shorts can be dressy think slightly longer length in black or white made from a nice material maybe a linen pair even. Pair these with cute wedges a glitzy top and some tanned legs. Trust me this look has become a staple in my weekend wardrobe.
2. Metallic sandals- Am I the only one that fell in love with gladiator sandals? Naturally, I am not referring to the gross chunky kind but the cute slightly strappy variety. These are amazing as they are comfy with being sloppy and pair with almost anything. Metallics are my favorite neutral.
3. Bangles- I don’t fully understand why but I always picture myself in stacks of bangles when I picture my perfect outfit. They add a sense of sex appeal in a gypsy sort of way and can go from casual sports bar to night club.
4. White Tank- I love a white tank. It’s a little ridiculous at a point to think that a white tank top will change your wardrobe but it adds a lot. It is another versatile piece it can go with almost anything and off sets a tan. You can opt for the lacey v neck kind or the ribbed scope neck kind layer on a dangly necklace and you are good to go.
5. Sun Dress- That phrase may bring to mind a seven year old child in pigtails but I promise that adults wear sundresses and can look sexy not just cute. If you are feeling like a dress pushes the comfort zone opt for a solid color a deep purple is pretty or a blue maybe. If you feel a little daring a print is my favorite way to go. I like floral and animal prints just keep everything else simple.
6. Maxi Dress- This look was popularized by celebs and initially I thought it might only work for those expecting. But upon further reflection the right style of this dress can be flattering. It certainly says summer time but still allows for a lot of coverage.
7. Bronzer- Firstly, I don’t recommend you rock this solo unless date night is a stay at home kind of thing. However, bronzer on your cheeks and even on your chest, arms, and legs, says summer time glow without the risk of cancer. Extra points for getting the shimmery kind because who doesn’t like to be a little sparkly?
8. Denim Skirt- They have all the appeal of jeans without the extra material. A denim skirt goes with anything and can be dressed up with a blazer and a blingy top or dressed down with a casual tank top. My one suggestion is that you do not get the awkward below the knee kind that does not say date night it says awkward middle schooler.
9. Wedges- My honey is super tall so there are certainly moments in which flats just feel awkward. Being a foot shorter than your hubby might be ok on dinner date night and more uncomfortable on dancing date night. So when I give the flats a break wedges are my favorite go to. No stumbling potential like you would have with pumps or stilettos. However, they make your legs look stunning.
10. A ponytail- Nothing dampens my mood like sticky hair draped all over my shoulders. I have hair down to my back and more often than not I rock the flowy tresses cascaded everywhere but on a hot summer night a cute pony tail says young and fun. The added benefit for your significant other is that your pretty face is on display. Your added benefit is a being able to feel a nice breeze on your neck and shoulders.
Personally, when it comes down to it I value versatility and value of an item. However, the best piece of advice I can give is to ensure that you yourself feels confident. A confident woman can pull off almost any fashion choice.
